My New Blogging Rules

Hello all you lovely ones.
Today I want to talk about blogging. Or more exactly the new blogging rules that I have set up for myself. The biggest reason that I choose to share them with you all is that I think that it will help me to live up to them better. But I also think that at least some of you will benefit from reading them.

I will be completely honest with you and admit that one of the reasons that I started this blog was that I thought it could make me some money. Not a lot of money, but enough to buy some new pieces to my tiny wardrobe. You see after being unemployed/sick for over two years anything that can bring in some extra money seem like a great idea.
However, as soon as I started to take blogging more seriously I discovered three things. The first one was that making money from blogging wasn’t only hard, it was really, really hard. The second thing was how much I loved to blog. And the third thing was that since I’m not the only one that dream about making money from my blog, there are thousands and thousands of blog posts on how to do it.
So I started to read posts on how to do pretty much everything when it came to blogging. And while I learned a lot from it, I also started to think that I was doing everything wrong. So I started to try to live up to all this things that I saw as blogging rules because I felt that if I didn’t do all this thing there was no use in having a blog at all. Yeah I’m a bit of dramatic I know.

Since I really love to blog I thought it would be stupid to give it up. But I also knew that I couldn’t keep following all these rules and tips that I read everywhere. So decided to set my own blogging rules. My blog, my rules. Seems fair, right?

New Blogging Rules for A Girl Of Some Importance.

Stop Doubting Yourself.
You are good enough. You will never be the best, there will always be those who are better than you. But you are good enough already. And you will only become better the longer you stick to it. And when in doubt, go back. Take a look at your first pictures, read your first post, trust me you have come a long way since then. Practice makes perfect.

No More Comparing Yourself To Others.
Because like I said; You are good enough. And I know you are doing your best. So stop comparing yourself to others. It’s okay to look up to others, and it’s okay to get inspired by their talent. That’s a healthy thing, it makes you strive to become better. But comparing yourself to others all the time is not a heathy thing, it just makes you doubt yourself. And we have rules against that.

Stop Reading Posts About Blogging.
Nope, not a single one. Because you have read to many already. You don’t have to read more posts on how to get traffic, you have read them all and it only makes you sad when their tips don’t work for you. You don’t have to read anymore about how to monetize your blog either because right now it’s not that important. What have worked for others don’t seem to work for you. Try to do it your way, it just might work. And if it don’t, then at least you have tried it.
(The only exemption I will make from this rule is if there is a post about blogging on one of the blogs I regularly reads, or if there is a technical thing I need to look up.)

Don’t Even Think About Giving Up.
Because giving up on something you love is stupid. And you are not stupid. And also you are good at this. I know that you are. So don’t give up. And if you ever think about giving up again, go back and read these rules. You wrote them because you knew that giving up blogging just wasn’t for you. You wrote them because you knew you needed to play by your own rules. So trust me, you can do this.

So there you got them. The new blogging rules for me and my blog. Please give me your thoughts on them in the comment section below.

  1. Yes, yes and yes. It is so easy to get discouraged – especially when you compare and start doubting yourself. I’ve been feeling a bit frustrated and overwhelmed just lately. I love your rules – thank you. 🙂

  2. Love this post this has really helped me! I love blogging & I know I’m not great at it but it’s something I love to do & why not carry on if I enjoy it. 🙂 xxx

  3. Daniel

  4. I’m so glad to read this post. I read your I don’t know if I want to blog any more post and was a little sad for you wanting to give up. So pleased to see you are sticking with it and see how much you love it.

  5. I will take this as a piece of advice. I’ve been reading lots about blogging and eventually I’ve lost my motivation. I’ll try to live up to my own rules and see how it goes. xx

  6. Nicole

This is a great post and just what I needed to read. I haven’t even start d my blog yet and I’m reading too much about blogging rather than actually getting started! Thanks!

  7. I love this! It’s so easy to give up on blogging–it’s happened to me before–because there are so many blogs to compare yourself to. The most important thing is to do YOUR best & put YOUR best out there. Hope to see more from you ♡

  8. Ida, you have made me feel so much better about blogging and seem to have a similar philosophy to me. I don’t want to just follow and comment mindlessly on random blogs to get followers, nor do I want to box myself in with a niche. I just want to write about what I fancy writing about and let my blog grow organically.

It’s just so bloody hard when there is 404859248 other bloggers wanting the same!

    Christina xx
